Facebook Live Q&A with Dr. Faustine Williams

– August 19, 2019, 12:00 PM EDTThis Facebook Live Q&A discussion will provide attendees with an opportunity to ask questions of Faustine Williams, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.S., Earl Stadtman Tenure-Track Investigator at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD). Discussion topics will include the importance of the inclusion of women of color in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) fields; the personal experiences of Dr. Williams; and her approach to researching cancer treatment disparities between women and men. Participants will be invited to submit questions in these areas and ask for advice on entering and advancing in biomedical careers.
Dr. Faustine Williams
Faustine Williams, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.S., is an Earl Stadtman Tenure-Track Investigator and NIH Distinguished Scholar at NIMHD. She is a trained transdisciplinary researcher with a focus on cancer prevention and control and health disparities. She is specifically interested in inter- and intra-health disparities in chronic diseases and finding ways to reduce and/or eliminate health disparities. Dr. Williams’ Health Disparities and Geospatial Transdisciplinary Research Lab is housed in the Population and Community Health Sciences Branch of NIMHD’s Intramural Research Program. She uses mixed methods—including community-based system dynamics, community-based participatory research, geographic information systems, storytelling, and qualitative approaches—to understand the complex interactions of factors contributing to health disparities. This supports the development and implementation of effective interventions to increase healthy behaviors and outcomes, especially among populations that experience the highest disparities. Her current projects include investigation of geographic variations in cancer incidence and treatment patterns. She was an Assistant Professor at East Tennessee State University and a Staff Scientist at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis prior to joining NIH. Dr. Williams received her Ph.D. in Applied Social Sciences, M.P.H. in Health Promotion and Policy, and M.S. in Health Informatics from the University of Missouri.
