MUIA recent request for information (RFI) from NIH invites comments and suggestions on a proposal for a trans-NIH research initiative to reduce maternal mortality. The alarming rise of maternal mortality in the United States is a serious public health concern garnering attention from U.S. Government leadership, NIH, and the public.

NIH seeks input on a forthcoming multipronged, trans-NIH effort to develop a bold, aggressive research approach to reverse the upward national trend in maternal mortality. This effort will involve (1) a multisite community-based participatory research effort to evaluate and implement effective interventions and tools and (2) research opportunities to address risk factors and identify biomarkers of poor outcomes for women during pregnancy, during delivery, and postpartum, particularly in populations disproportionately affected by maternal health disparities.

More information on the RFI is available here. Responses must be received by February 21, 2020.
