The most recent edition of Women’s Health in Focus at NIH explores global women’s health. The feature story describes the progress made as well as some of the remaining challenges for global women’s health, including climate change, clean water access, heat stress, and air pollution. 

This edition describes the worsening maternal health crisis in the United States and how the NIH is driving research to promote maternal health and reduce maternal morbidity and mortality.

The “Scientist Spotlight” article features NIH Director Monica Bertagnolli, M.D., who is the first surgeon and the second woman to hold this position at NIH. Dr. Bertagnolli shares current work at NIH to promote entry, recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in biomedical research advice for younger researchers starting out.
