At the 46th meeting of ACRWH on October 23, 2018, ORWH Director Janine Clayton, M.D., addressed increases in maternal mortality, decreasing life expectancies for women, and the effects of the opioid crisis on women’s health. Dr. Clayton placed a spotlight on the HEAL (Helping to End Addiction Long-term) Initiative, an aggressive, trans-agency effort to speed scientific solutions to stem the national opioid public health crisis.

Guest speakers included former U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski; former U.S. Representative Connie Morella; NIH Principal Deputy Director Lawrence Tabak, D.D.S., Ph.D.; and National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Director Griffin P. Rodgers, M.D., M.A.C.P.
