Event Information

Clinical trials and clinical research often does not represent the demographic diversity of the populations that these novel drugs and interventions aim to serve. This workshop will include a discussion with journal editors on the role of medical journals in promoting more diverse trials; an exploration of the role of institutional review boards in promoting clinical trial equity and diversity; and a conversation about ongoing efforts that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services are undertaking to promote health equity and diversity. The workshop panels and discussions will inform the ongoing work of the National Academies Committee on Improving the Representation of Women and Underrepresented Minorities in Clinical Trials and Research.

The report is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The audience will have an opportunity to engage through moderated Q&A throughout the agenda.
