ORWH Associate Director for Interdisciplinary Research, Elizabeth Barr, Ph.D., recently presented at the GENDERACTIONplus Online Stakeholder Consultation on “Inclusive Gender Analysis in Research and Innovation Beyond the European Research Area” on October 1, 2024. GENDERACTIONplus is a Horizon Europe project that aims to contribute to the European Research Area’s gender equality and inclusivity objectives. The project develops strategic policy advice by engaging with stakeholders, organizations, and citizens, builds capacity for gender equality in research and innovation, and creates impact through communication and dissemination activities.
The event shared insights about the implementation of gender analysis in research and innovation. Presenters included representatives from the Canadian Institute for Health Research’s Institute of Gender and Health, the French National Research Agency, the Gender Sector of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Research and Innovation, and Vinnova, the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems.
Dr. Barr’s presentation, Advancing Gender-Related Research and Innovation at the U.S. National Institutes of Health, focused on sex and gender policy design and implementation. She discussed NIH’s achievements in enacting sex and gender policy as well as relevant challenges, lessons learned, monitoring, and evaluation. She also touched on how intersectionality is considered in sex and gender policy.
