ORWH is pleased to announce the release of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Overview of Research Gaps for Selected Conditions in Women’s Health Research at the NIH: Proceedings of a Workshop—in Brief. This publication summarizes the third public meeting of NASEM’s ad hoc committee aiming to address the persistent gaps that remain in the knowledge of women's health research across the NIH. The committee is tasked with analyzing the proportion of NIH funding that supports conditions that affect women specifically or are more common among women and determine the level of funding needed to address gaps in research. The committee is also charged with developing recommendations regarding the structure, systems, and review processes of the NIH to optimize women’s health research.

This publication provides an overview of the presentations and discussions from the committee meeting. It highlights topics central to ORWH’s mission areas including the science of sex differences, as well as research on reproductive and gynecologic health, mental and behavior health, cancer, and nonmalignant gynecologic conditions.
