Specialized Centers of Research Excellence (SCORE) on Sex Differences 2023 Annual Meeting Keynote Address

The Specialized Centers of Research Excellence (SCORE) on Sex Differences program is the only NIH cooperative agreement program supporting disease-agnostic research on sex differences. Each center serves as a national resource for translational research to identify the role of biological sex differences in the health of women.
President of the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation, Claire Pomeroy, M.D., M.B.A., will present the keynote address titled, "Core Values and Your Research Career: Health Equity and the Social Determinants of Health," at this year's SCORE Annual Meeting.
Keynote address only. The remainder of the event is a business meeting for SCORE investigators.

Claire Pomeroy, M.D., M.B.A.
President, Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation
Dr. Pomeroy serves as president and chief executive officer of the foundation and is responsible for advancing its mission to “improve health by accelerating support for medical research through recognition of research excellence, advocacy and education.” She passionately supports ongoing investment in the full range of research. Dr. Pomeroy is an expert in infectious diseases and a longtime advocate for patients, especially underrepresented populations and people living with HIV/AIDS. She is known for her commitment to strengthening global public health infrastructure. She has published more than 100 articles and book chapters and edited three books.
Dr. Pomeroy serves on the Board of Trustees for the Morehouse School of Medicine and sits on the Board of Directors for the Science Philanthropy Alliance; iBiology/Science Communication Lab; and the Center for Women in Academic Medicine and Science (CWAMS). She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Sierra Health Foundation; Haemonetics Corporation; and Embecta Corporation—positions for which she receives compensation.
Among her many honors, Dr. Pomeroy was inducted into the National Academy of Medicine in 2011. She has also received honorary degrees from University of Massachusetts Medical School (2016) and University of South Florida Morsani School of Medicine (2022).
Dr. Pomeroy received bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of Michigan and completed her residency and fellowship training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the University of Minnesota. She earned an M.B.A. from the University of Kentucky and is a proud member of the Gatton Business School's Hall of Fame. She has held faculty positions at the University of Minnesota, University of Kentucky, and University of California, Davis. Dr. Pomeroy was chief of infectious diseases and associate dean for research and informatics at the University of Kentucky. She joined UC Davis in 2003 as executive associate dean and served as vice chancellor and dean of the School of Medicine from 2005 through 2013. She has been president of the Lasker Foundation since June 2013.
Each center in the SCORE program serves as a national resource for translational research, at multiple levels of analysis, to identify the role of biological sex differences in the health of women. These NIH-supported Centers of Excellence are vital hubs for research on sex and gender that also provide pilot funding, training, and education. SCORE investigators provide leadership in the development and promotion of standards and policies for the consideration of sex as a biological variable (SABV) and sex differences in biomedical research. They identify the contributions of biological sex to health outcomes and apply this knowledge to the development of the next generation of interventions and medical treatments, leading to improvements in women's health.
